well i wondered if it would be possible to use a tach on a old outboard such as a 1959 10hp? any ideas. maybe portable ones would be a thought

Atach can be used on any spark ignition engine. You just need the correct type. For small engines with no alternator we generally suggest a Tiny Tach like you find on lawn/yard tractors. One wire install and they are small.

I have been looking myself and the Tiny Tach looks to be the only real option.

I believe they have them right here at the iboats store, just search Tiny Tach.
