Tachometer

I noticed that the needle on my tach doesn't drop below 2K even when the engine is off. At a moderate speed, maybe half power it goes up to 4K. I know the motor isn't turning that fast. Is it a matter of changing out the tach itself? This is on a 21' Suntracker party barge with a 60 hp Johnson.

Look for a small dial on the back of the tach and make sure it is set to the "6" position. Rotate it back and forth a couple of times before setting it on the 6 position.
