Re: tackle storage

I keep everything in the plastic tackle organizers. I have one carrying bag that holds 8 and another one that holds 6. I just plan on what I'll need for the trip and take only those storage boxes. I also keep a bag of platics and a small box for hooks, swivels, etc.

Re: tackle storage

I use the flush mount plano box set-ups as much as I can. A little expensive, but anywhere you have a cubic foot of hidden space that is not used, you can put one in. I have one in each side of my center console and plan to put two more in compartments at the transom. If well thought out, they take up no space that you are currently using. Not all boats will have the voids needed to mount these. What is your boat?

Re: tackle storage

I alway use a tackle box and my vest. I do not keep it in the boat unless I know I am going fishing soon. I just seems that fishing stuffs gets destroyed on the boat when I am working on it or using the boat and not fishing. Rod tips seem to break and non-stowed lures get tangled with things.

Of course I use small boats. :)

Re: tackle storage

I've found over many years of fishing and using very different styles of boats that the style of boat dictates what you do for tackle storage. If you have lots of room, you have space for more boxes which allows better organization of tackle. If you have a smaller boat with less space, having a lot of small boxes creates issues with clutter and the possibility of stepping on stuff so one larger box may be best -- but granted, allows less flexibility for organization. Rod storage is always an issue unless you have a boat with copious amounts of rod storage. On small boats I used vertical rod racks. My walleye boat has plenty of lockable rod storage and I carry 11 - 12 rods as we can fish crappie, walleye, bass, pike and musky during the same outing.

Re: tackle storage

I could not agree more. If I had more dedicated space or had a pure fishing vessel, my equipment would stay in the boat.
