I have always had great replies to boating problems here in iBoats...and I was really excited to see the Tahoe section due to owning a Tahoe. The thing that I don't understand is that this section is like a ghost town. There are lots of views with few replies. I was looking forward to talking to people that own Tahoe's...does this section just not get looked at much??

Sorry that I had to say this guys...I would just like to see more activity like the other sections I guess.

Since I joined in 2009, it is pretty slow during the off season.

See I think the issue is so many of the questions are so general that they don't need to go into any brand specific forum. Mostly for Tahoes, I see questions about smart tabs and sometimes quality issues. I don't know where they were placed within the forum because I only look at the 'new posts'.

Re: Tahoe Boat Section??

It may be the off season for most but here in California ther really is no off season as far as I am concerned. I will not winterize my boat because I want to use it year round if i can. I put up a post about asking where people got their bimini and got lots of views but no replies. I come to the forums regularly and nit just this section. I don't have any issues with my boat at the time..but do want to install smart tabs and haven't seen any on a Q7 yet. If I mount them I will want the bracket that allows you to lift them up so the kids can still wakebaord.

I want to install them on my Q4 SS so I'm not going to be much help for ya... my question is what pound of the smart tab xs do I need for my 4.3 mercrusier?

And I didn't think about that if you have the smart tabs you may not be able to have big waves for wakeboarding.... ummmmm

It is a fact...they are not wakeboarding friendly...I talked to the rep today. I will use them for sking and tubing and cruising...but will have them lifted up for wakeboarding. There are a trainload of threads on tabs installed on the Q4 on this site...but there are NONE for the Q7. I guess I will have to be the one to post something when I get them. I talked with Greg at Nauticus...give him a call and ask...he is really helpful.

Re: Tahoe Boat Section??

For both of you guys (Prince and dmoss), yes...things on here are slow. I usually check this site about once every 2-3 days during the off-season, then daily during the regular season.

If you are scared to drill the holes, take them to your local marine dealer and have the service department do them. It'll set you back about about 1-2 hours of labor costs, but, if they mess up, you aren't responsible - $100 for peace of mind is a good thing. There are two local marine shops here - one will do it, the other won't - so check around.

I actually had the same apprehensions about drilling, then one day just decided to knock it out. my problem had to deal with bending the bracket (there is a thread about it), but in the long run, took me about one hour....no issues what so ever and they work as advertised.

dmoss, you will want to use the 60 lb actuators. It's based on the length of the boat as well. Check the chart on the Smart Tabs website.

I wakeboard quite a bit on another boat (Malibu), and purchased ballast bags for my Tahoe Q5i...put them in the engine compartment, and off we go. There is a HUGE difference in wake made...if you have some heavier folks, you can adjust ballast that way as well. The only problems with the ballast bags is the waiting for the bags to fill/un-fill....about 10-12 minutes per bag. I typically fill them while we're swimming, etc. i use this without moving the tabs...I'm scared that I'll lose one of the bolts while adjusting.

Re: Tahoe Boat Section??

Where I am a bit apprehensive about drilling the boat, after talking to the rep he said the holes will go through the hull completely due to how this these new hulls are now. (the instructions for the tabs say "NO THROUGH HULL DRILLING REQUIRED"....obviously that is not true. My biggest issue will be the curvature of the stern the closer it gets to the outer chine. He said that they do not necessarily have to be 5 inches from the outer chine...that is just to tell people where to install so they don't put them UNDER the boat. (yes he did have people asking if that is where they were supposed to install them!)

I am going to get mine and tape the bracket to the hull first and see where the top holes will be before any drilling. I will be getting the PR500 top bracket so I can lift the tabs I believe. I will be documenting the install because there are NO threads of installations on a Q7i on this site. I did see one Q7 that put the tabs right next to the I/O...and I will definitely NOT be doing that. You will lose the side to side stability by installing them in that fashion.

Thanks a lot for the offer...I am in Vacaville...I will be putting in the tabs after taxes are back. The only thing that worries me is drilling through the hull...lol The Nauticus guy said put them out as far as I can where the top mount sits flush. I thought they HAD to be close to the chine...but he said they just tell you to put them in a specific place so people don't try to mount them underneath the boat...lol.

Re: Tahoe Boat Section??

It's the off season for me so I don't frequent the site as I would during summer. Once May rolls around the forum will pick up.

Cheers.

Just let me know, I am in livermore not to far, these things are really easy to install, make sure nauticaus gives you the the extra shock mounting piece, assuming our hulls are the same style and use a good sealer or silicone when final install is done.

Re: Tahoe Boat Section??

on my hull I needed a different bracket piece so the shock won't bind. The piece the shock attaches to the smart tab is a u shape, the bolt goes thru, but because of the hull design and mounting of the shock it will not let it compress, remove the u piece on the lower shock for a one sidded piece, talk to nauticus they sent mine out free of charge.
