I'm looking at both... I've been out on the 185 but never the Tahoe. Has anyone been on both? How do they compare in handling and speed, etc? And anyone who's had experience with either one, what are your opinions on each? I'm debating on the 4.3 carbureted or the 4.3 MPI... anyone know if the MPI is worth spending the extra? IT seems to me it'd be a happier long term running motor. Thanks!!!

Bayliner got a little stronger rating in the J.D. Power survey . Carb vs MPI comes down to just what the $ difference is.

Kelly Cook

I recently purchased the Tahoe Q4 with the MPI and debated both engines myself. The MPI has two additional advantages over the carbureted model. The oil filter is mounted on top of the enginge for easy access. Also it has only one drain plug mounted on top of the engine drian the water in the winter. The carburated model requires you to open three drain plugs to winterize.

I have the Tahoe Q3 with a 150 efi o/b and have it set up to troll for stripers and walleye. As well as ski with the family. As this is my 6th boat, one thing I have learned is to buy the larger power plant to pull skiers as well as get in off the lake in bad weather. Would I buy another Tahoe? Yes
DT1 :)

KCook: I don’t put much stock in J.D Power. They picked Chevy Truck one year as the truck of the year. Them suites and ties don’t drive trucks.

SML&LKA: I’d go for the Tahoe just get it will as much HP as they put in it you’ll be happy you did.
Bayliner has a bad reputation. Probably always will.

I bought a Tahoe Q4SF in June and so far have been pleased with it.Mine has the 190hp carb engine and goes as fast as I want to go on the water. The MPI probably has an edge in maintenance and resale value but at a price.I have installed Nauticus tabs and they are worth the money. The trailer is very low, had to switch launch ramps.

SML&LKA VA
I have the 185 with the 4.3L carberator(190HP) engine. If your looking for more power with the MPI, you will probably not need it. I have had mine over 50 MPH many times, also pulled skiers and tub-ers with 4/5 other people in the boat with ease. So if you decide on the Bayliner 185, your second decision will be is it worth $2143 for the extra 30 HP with the MPI. I dont know anything about the Tahoe's but I am sure they have a nice package also.

John

http://mysite.verizon.net/vzenyisu/...tebuilderpictures/.pond/solo.jpg.w300h180.jpg
