Tail of three OMC Outdrives and their Ratios

165 hp Upper 21.19 total .72 overall 1.39

210 hp Upper 21.16 total .86 overall 1.61

120 hp Upper 16.20 total .52 overall 1.92

I would like the put the 210 hp outdrive on the 165 hp engine. Will the 165 hp prop turn faster or slower with with the 210 hp outdrive? Will anything bad happen?

Use the proper gear ratio for your engine.

I hear ya, but lets say a guy put a v8 outdrive on a inline 6. Would anything bad happen?

One would gain .14 total and about .20 overall. I figure if the outdrive can take the torque of a v8 a 6 would not hurt it.
