Here is a boat I found on ebay. I have two questions for you all. What do you think happened to it, and how hard do you think it would be to fix?

What happned?

Hit a submerged object and tore the engine off of the transom.

Fixable? yes. A lot of work to get that trans, capable of holding a high HP outboard.

I guess it could also be that he put an overpowered 4 stroke on there and the boat couldn't handle the weight when he hit a bump....

Since it's a clean break with no rotten wood apparent, it'd be pretty straightforward to fix, if you like that type of boat (I don't, but that's maybe just me).

so how hard a repair would that be? cut off the old and glass in a new? is that a pretty hard to do considering the size of outboard probably going ot be used?

Re: Take a look at this!!

looks to me like it was rear ended while being trailered, if that happened while on the water water the boat would have swamped for sure. I could make that repair good as if not better than new, doesn't look that bad to me, it's all there for patterning.

seems to me that if it was rear ended the splash well would be broken. unless it was hit very low.

No damage on the trailer either, if that's the one it was on.

2004 Ranger Comanche 521.
Very nice boat.
Had rear impact while being on trailer.
Was yamaha powered.
At the price, would be worth fixing. IMO

Re: Take a look at this!!

plenty of time, as cap would have to be removed, but a nice boat, plus another 1,000-1,500 and hours of tender loving care. could be worth it.

I was looking through ebay trying to find it and didn't see it, it does look like it could be a really nice boat, but it's more work then I'd want to deal with.

Re: Take a look at this!!

It definitely looks like the impact came from the bottom of the outboard. Looks like a good boat and if the price is right, probably a decent project. The only problem with e-bay is the cost of shipping.

Have a great day,

Rob.

there's people that will haul that stuff across country for a small fee, I can't remember the name of the web page right off hand, but it's a page where people post their plans to make a trip from point "A" to "B" and offer to haul stuff for a small fee to help with the ol' fuel bill, I'll post the page if I can remember where it was.

Yep, I bet he backed the motor into something and broke the transom.

I was thinking about this thread on the way home, and that the EXACT thing I came up with...

If the price was right it would be worth the time to fix the problem. Although that is a pretty big problem, because you half to worry about building it back to where it will support the motor and seal it up water tight. But if you haven't got a motor for it already then you got to add the cost of the motor also which is a pretty penny. If you went to part that thing out it would fetch or bring a good price also. I bet somebody was very sick to there stomach after that happened to the boat.

The bid is over $2100 now. I wish it was closer I would bid on it.
Very nice boat, looks pretty new.
