For a lot of us, working on outboards is a fairly infrequent thing. So, it's really, really easy to disassemble something then forget how it went together and have problems with reassembly.

These days, with everyone having a digital camera, there's no excuse for not photographing assemblies before disassembling them. Most digital cameras have a macro setting, which makes it easy to take closeups, as well.

You can even take additional photos of subassemblies before you tear something down further. Carburetors are a great example of an part where you'll get great benefit from taking photos before removing parts.

It's worth thinking about. It's so easy to forget how an unfamiliar setup looks once it's apart.
