well im about to get started on my 18 ss after a long stall. i have both consoles removed and and am going to be removing the deck. also need to replace the transom so should i just go ahead and remove the splash well to make it easier to do the deck and the transom ?? the deck was installed wrong on the last attempt so i will have to measure and make my own patterns ... trail and error kinda thing. Re: take it apart ... how far ???

When I finally get around to replacing my transom I'm going to pull the splashwell out completely...I've had some water escaping down where it meets the transom and want to make sure it's sealed very well.

I just wish I'd ordered 500 rivets from Fastenal to begin with, I've been nickel and diming them for months now and could've saved some cash.

Good luck CBG, looking forward to seeing some more pics of the rig.

i dont see many rivets holding the splashwell togeather yet but .... a BUNCH of screws on the bottom ( underneath ) side. i guess with the splashwell out it will still be strucurally sound enough to flip and paint ??

I found no reason to remove the splashwell.

On my 76 Chiefton the Splash well was riveted on the underside of the top. I went into West Marine and they were selling one rivet for $0.40. I had them order 100 from the warehouse for $11.00 and had them in two days. I'll wait two days to save $29 (73%).
