Any size wood is fine though obviously smaller takes a lot more pieces.... I bought 4 treated 6x6's and cut them into 2' blocks with a chainsaw... Also get a 4x4 and a 2x4 for fine tuning ..... You want to stack 2 horizontal, 2 lengthwise, etc with the last being horizontal....

If you mean auto motive jack stands I would advise against that... Use boat stands.... Most marinas will rent them for not much money...

I have a V block I made by screwing two short 2x4's to the top of a 1' piece of 6x6... I also bored a hole on the bottom and drove in a piece of pipe in the center of the bottom so with the saddle removed from my floor jack it slips in and is very stable... I use that when I'm on hard ground... Otherwise I use a bottle jack like in the pic with a different V block that is made from a 2x6 and 2x4's...

Either way I have wood between the boat and the jack.

I'm not sure if he ties the stands together in the vid but they will have holes in the bottom of the pad bracket... I use 2" ratchet straps across under the keel from one stand to the other to make sure they can't spit out.
