hi guys i was wondering how difficult it is to take off a 290 volvo outdrive from 1988 if anybody has the manual that would be greatly appreciated thanks!
Why are you wanting to remove the drive? If you have to replace the drive, I can understand that, but if you want to do a bellows or pull the engine, there is a MUCH easier way.
I actually have to replace my drive bellows as water is getting into my boat would you explain to me that easier way please ... thanks also one more question a leaky exhaust bellow woudlnt allow water into the boat right?
Here is a thread that explains how to change the bellows. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=309095
Since water is getting into the bilge, water has to go through the flywheel housing and the bearing/s in it. This destroys the bearing. You will need to pull the engine, and replace the bearings before the lock up and destroy the flywheel housing. Have a look at this thread. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=265021
thanks for the great info Don i have one more question i had my drive bellows replaced about 2 months ago is there anyway that maybe the bellows are loose and allowing water in and if so should the local marina be at fault or myself thanks!!
Just because the bellows was new, doesn't mean it could be the problem. Possibly installed incorrectly, or damaged while installing.
Where exactly is the water coming in at? That is the first thing to find out. Then it's possible to give places that could cause the leak.
I just purchased a boat with a 290 outdrive. Previous owner gave me both new bellows and exhaust hose. can I use this technique for those also or will I have to remove the drive? Thanks in advance
Welome to iboats sty2112, please start a new thread with your question, don't just post at the end of someone elses year old thead. Your post will be missed by many.
