I read in my clymers that to get to the waterpump all I need to do is take off the actual bolts on the lower unit, but I could have sworn most outboards have something near the carbs that needs to get unscrewed before the lower unit will come off, am I correct in that yamahas of this type (1995 yamaha 200 saltwater series) don't have anything near the carbs that holds the lower unit in or is my clymers wrong?
Trying to make this least frusterating as possible since this is my first time!

This is a Yamaha not an OMC. Much simpler. I always make sure the engine is shifted in to forward gear before starting. Trim the engine out and start unbolting. You will see how it hooks up when you drop the gearcase. It is very important to be sure the case is still in forward before reinstalling and making sure the shift shaft lines up as it goes on.

NJ, whatever you do, don't go buying any books titled Brain Surgery Made Easy.
You haven't mentioned any problems and you're ready to disassemble your engine.

The engine hasn't ever been touched, nothing has ever been serviced/replaced except a faulty oil sending unit.

If after 11 years the waterpump impeller is still good on a yamaha then correct me, but i'm assuming it would need to be changed as I would like to avoid any problems this year-

Even though it might still be ok, I like you would be changing it.

After eleven years, I would agree with changing the water pump but being you've never tackled something like this, you might be biting off more than you want to chew. The book don't mention that the bolts will possibly be frozen and the good possibility of twisting off the heads.
Another quip from the ole man, "as the monkey told the elephant, if it won't go, don't force it".
Not uncommon to have to use heat to free up the bolts and propane ain't hot enough.

NJ Dont forget bolt under anode, remove upper rubber grommet to remove bolt and anode, along with 6 bolts along outside, also unhook 1/4'' speedo hose and shift shaft, pretty easy with a little common sense and not alot of saltwater use hrs, Good Luck
