I have read that you should not take off the floor and top decking of a boat at the same time while replacing the floor and transom, yet I have seen some people do it.

I have a 23 foot 1984 Falcon Malibu that needs a new floor and possible transom. Should I hold off pulling the top deck off until I have replaced the floor?

Thanks

When you say "top deck", what specifically are you referring to?

It is important to insure the integrity of the hull shape when perform restoration work. There are many ways to accomplish this. Maybe what you have read relates to this.

I think the specific answer for you depends on the boat. Do you have a picture that you can post? Some boats have sufficient frames and bulkheads to support the boat if you were to remove the top deck.

no, its OK as long as the outer hull is sound, just make sure you dont spread/narrow the beam when working on it, or the deck wont fit back on. I screw some 1x4's through thr pop rivet holes to keep teh beam in check

Thanks, I will try and post a picture.

When I am talking about the top deck, I am referring to the top part of the boat that is attached to the bottom using the rub rail.

Thanks for the input guys!!

This is a pic taken about 20 years ago. I am trying to bring her back to life now.
