Tall Boat for Wakeboarding

I'm looking for some advise on my boat. I have a 21' Crownline w/ a 350. I'd like to put a wakeboard tower on it, but am a bit concerned about the height. The boat just seems to be taller than anything else I've seen with a tower. The draft isn't any deeper, just above the water line sits high. Any thoughts or advise is very much appreciated.

Re: Tall Boat for Wakeboarding

hi....welcome to i boats :)

the crown lines are great boats
sitting taller in the water is a good thing....its called freeboard....
are you worried about being tippy?
check with crown line and see it they offered that boat with a tower.....(im sure they did)

towers dont add that much weight up high......if it was a smaller 15 foot flat bottom.....but a 21 crown....no worries

cheers

If your concern has anything to do with the height of the tower compounded with the height of the boat creating a tippable problem, don't worry about it. At 21 feet there is about zero chance of that happening. Easier to pop rider up, yes. Towers make boats handle better when a pulling a load too. We nearly began taking on water with every turn in a buddies boat towing from the transom. until he added a tower, Ironically. It fixed everything- boat never tipped again. It would seem that towintg from a higher point would cause a problem, but since the load is moved forward, the opposite is true.

The height of the tower up is not a problem. In fact, you can get tower extensions. The height of the tower down might affect trailering or storing so check those measurements.
A good zero stretch wakeboard rope will make more difference to wakeboarding than a tower will. The tower does help to store some stuff and with the boarding. It also helps with beginning waterskiers, kneeboards, and things like AirChairs. Don't tow a tube from the tower though. You could load a thousand pounds or more force on the tower is the tube submerges. It's a long lever to put that load through the deck.
Also, check into ways to get the boat to plane quicker and at a lower speed. Props can help but trim tabs or hydrofoil blades are a big help.
