Tanaka 550 Outboard 2 stroke

I finally got the motor running good and the plastic recoil starter assembly was dry rotted and got caught up and broke into pieces. I have had zero luck finding a replacement and they haven't made any new ones in 5 years. Anyone have any suggestions or an old TOB-550 that they have parts available for sale????? Motor runs great just need a way to get it started. Thanks for any help in advance.

Scout around for another similar motor(running or not), buy it for parts....you'll probably need them...I have a 300 Tanaka and an old motor for parts...it's very nice just to go rob that old motor now and then...

Meanwhile you find parts, used engines, donors, is it possible to rope start the engine ?

Maybe you could adapt a battery operated power drill to engage the flywheel to turn/start the motor?....

Robert I have looked all over for the same motor to buy for scrap parts but haven't had any luck. I will keep looking, eventually something will come up.
Sea Rider the motor will start with a rope it just looks cheesy. I have another motor that runs so I am not down, I just want to find the replacement part and get her looking clean. I do appreciate the feedback. I may have to try the drill concept. Thanks
