Hey guys, need a little help here. Got my little project motor all back together and it runs great at wot but not so good at idle. Sounds to me like it starts to knock pretty bad then dies. Too far advanced maybe? Point gap is correct but I'm not sure about the timing. There is a M and arrow on the flywheel and an M and arrow on the case.I did what I thought made sense and with an ohm meter set the points to open when both arrows and M's aligned. Is this right? I might add it's a real PITA to adjust the breaker plate. You have to remove the flywheel and everything on top of it to get to the points. So I don't want to do this too many times.Any Tanaka gurus out there? TIA.

Re: Tanaka TOB25 timing

My info is for a TOB 120,175 and 300. It says outside of flywheel is marked with a T for TDC
And an M for correct ignition timing.Points should just open when M mark is alligned with the match mark on the crankcase.Reposition magneto base plate to adjust timing. Point gap is .013.Armature air gap should be .013.On briggs engines I used to use a file card for air gap.

Re: Tanaka TOB25 timing

No T on mine. But the rest makes sense. The points should open on the mark.I will take the little sucker apart and double check that the points just open when the marks align.I believe I was pretty sure I did that because I knew what a ***** it would be to do it over.Maybe it's fuel, but I don't think so.Thanks for your input.
