Tandem axle trailer with equalizer off center, probably because the leafs are twice as thick on the rear axle, what's your thoughts? New leafs for the front to equal the rear?
Thanks

1995 22' Scarab w/7.4L boat is sitting on the trailer

Yeah, I think that I would opt for the new springs to match the heavier set. Looks like the front axle is already touching the frame, but maybe it is an optical illusion from the camera angle. You might not need springs as heavy as those, but it might be better than replacing all 4. JMHO

The rear springs CANNOT function because the equalizer end is against the frame and the back end is in a fixed spring mount. This setup needs four four matching springs of the proper length. When springs flex the eye-to-eye distance lengthens. That cannot happen with the equalizer locked up against the frame.

Re: Tandem Axle Equalizer Issue

Thanks guys.

Update - Replaced the rears to a 4 leaf setup to match the front, dropped the trailer back down and the same thing happened. The front leafs are wasted!!! Going to replace the fronts with 4s this afternoon, but question.
Now one of my front wheels is stuck, doesn't turn. When the trailer dropped, made a loud noise, probably from the equalizer hitting the frame but what happened to that one wheel? Do you think something happened to the bearing? Or brakes? What is more likely the issue? I just hope the hub/brake drum will come off easily since it isn't moving.

So with the new springs, how much room is there between the top of the u-bolts to the bottom of the frame?
It looks like someone has added 1.5 to 2" riser blocks under the axle, which you might want to remove.
Especially if there is no suspension travel left without interfering with the frame.
Are you sure the tire on the one front is not jammed up into the fender?

Re: Tandem Axle Equalizer Issue

Update - Both axles now have 4 leaf packs and it sits great. @Jeeperman - I didn't think about measuring between the U-Bolts and frame but will do and also the distance between the equalizer shackles and the frame. It is in storage 1.5 hrs from my house so it might be a week or 2 before I can get those figures. Thanks everyone for your input!
