Hi, I am replacing the drain tube on a 1988 Regal 233xl. Having removed the tube, would 2 weeks be enough dry time for the empty hole? There probably was some leakage, but not a great deal.
Also, to reseal the edes of the hole, before installing the new tube, would 5200 be enough, or should I epoxy around the hole?
Thanks Roman

Re: Tansom Drain tube Replacement Questions!

Welcome to iBoats!
If your drain tube area is wet you should do some more exploring. I would HIGHLY recommend that you drill some 3/8 inch holes at various places inside the transom approximately 2" above the bottom 3/4" deep and see what kind of shavings you get. If they are light tan and dry then OK. If dark brown and wet then the water intrusion was more than you suspected and your transom will need to be replaced. It will NEVER dry and it WILL continue to ROT until it becomes UNSAFE. I am not trying to be a negtive skallywag, just trying to tell you the truth. It is your boat so do as you wish. At the very least I would use a heat gun to ATTEMPT to dry it as much as possible, remove as much of the MUSHY wood as possible, get some 3M Marine FILLER to fill the void. I would then redrill the hole for the drain tube and use 3M 5200 to set in in place.

Again, I HIGHLY recommend you explore the transom for potential further water intrusion.

I'm just sayin...:D
