I have a 1993 4.3 mercruiser on a 1850 bayliner. 3 weeks ago I developed a tapping sound while I was out on the water running the boat at WOT. I brought the boat back to the house and through a pair of muffs on it. Using a wooden stick, the sound was closest to the sound of a lifter. So I replaced all the lifters and put everything back together. (Yes new gaskets and everything torqued to specs). As soon as I started the boat the noise came back.

I was told if it's a rod knock, pulling each spark plug wire will reduce the noise in the offended cylinder. But, when I pull cylinder #6. Even at idle the noise turns from a slight knock to a louder deep hollow knock. Does anyone have any ideas? Time to pull the motor and rebuild? Thank for the help

Ayuh,..... When reviewing yer other thread,....[/URL] My guess is nobody's gonna know what's knockin', til the motor is torn down, 'n inspected,....

My guess is a busted piston or wrist pin problem,....

Ya it looks like I'm going to have to pull the motor in this case.

Whats your oil pressure?

Oil pressure is normal. Around 40 psi at idle. Doesn't fluctuate when running at a certain rpm
