Tapered diameter prop shaft??

I noticed why my new prop doesn't fit--my propshaft's thickness is "tapered", meaning its diameter increases as it nears its stem. I looked closely at the hub and thrust washer on my current prop and they confirmed it. One end of the hub is smaller diameter than the other end, as is the thrust washer. Is this standard; factory installed? Or are these shafts rare? Will my local prop shop possibly have a problem finding the correct hub?

Re: Tapered diameter prop shaft??

you guys were quiet on this one! think it was a bad hub put into the new prop. took the old prop with all parts into prop shop to do a comparison, got another new hub installed, gonna try it out this afternoon.

and to answer my own question, the thrust washer is tapered in diameter, but it stops on the shaft and fits into the hub at a point that keeps the hub on a portion of the shaft that does not taper in diameter (meaning the entire hub portion is the same diameter).
