Tapping noise normal?

96 150 efi. Ran it in barrel after changing impeller. With cowl off I'm hearing what I would call valve noise on a car engine. This engine is new to me so I'm wondering if this is normal. Compresson check 120 across, idles fine. Listened with engine stetho-scope on all cylinders and they sounded the same, clicking. Thanks

some of the V/6s have a little piston slap till they get up to normal temp. is hard to say not hearing the noise

I had the same exact issue, and found out that one of my plug wires was just a TEEEEEENY bit loose..popping it in place solved it..

2 strokes rattle. No sump oil and a lot of moving metal parts = noise.
