Tapping Noise

All, while working through a blown fuse I was listening close to my engine. I have a tapping noise that changes with RPM that sounds like it is coming from the aft port side of the engine. Does this with drive in and out of gear. It cannot be heard with the engine cover on and I don't remember hearing it when I winterized and fogged the engine but it could have been there.

It kind of reminds me of the old lifter tapping I used to get in an old pickup truck that a rocker adjustment took care of.

How do I go about troubleshooting this or figuring out more. I know you are not on my boat to hear the noise. :D Just looking for pointers and thoughts.

Re: Tapping Noise

The lifter tapping noise I occasionally hear at low rpms is in my Y exhaust pipe. There is a butterfly flapper valve in there for helping keep water out etc. Mine only does this on 1 side. My noise goes away as rpms increase.

Re: Tapping Noise

Is the noise ticking like from a lifter, or more of a clicking or clacking, which is likely a flapper.
Get a mechanic's stethoscope and pinpoint where the noise is coming from.
