Tar Removal

Just wondering if anyone has a good way of removing the tar you find at bulkheads from fiberglass. My engine quit once and I hit the dock smearing the tar-I've used car tar remover but I still have the light brown residue.<br />Thanks in advance<br />Martin on the Jersey shore

I have used plain old ammonia straight out of the bottle. It works great. Also I have used lighter fluid and then cleaned with soapy water. Hope this helps.

Hopefully your gelcoat was waxed and you are tackling the tar right away.If not ,it may never come all the way off.Unprotected surfaces that tar and creasote come in contact with will actually have the contaminant leach into the surface.This happens on place and stick tiles all the time as well as roll flooring.Boat fenders are notorious for picking up tar and never being able to get rid of it.Try everything you can get your hands on including paint thinner,alcohal,kerosene,bleach,amonia,rubbing or polishing compound etc..Charlie

baby oil will make it disappear almost immediately

Greased Lightning is good, but WD-40 is is prolly best for tar.

Acetone will do it also.
