There is a screen in each of the two injectors, yes. But they don't need to be checked, unless you have seen a bad spray pattern coming out. My boat had TBI and over 800hrs, with no problems. I also have had an 87 van until 2007 and currently have 90 Chevy van with the same TBI and the screens have never been checked and work fine. The system is so simple, it doesn't need any upkeep.

there is an older post where he said screens were caked-hence the inquiry-are they easy to examine?

No they aren't. And that's why I agree with bubba, leave them alone, until you have eliminated EVERY other possibility if you are having a fuel delivery issue.
