Td-20 won't run right

i need some help.i got this td-20 johnson from the late 40s but it will only run for ten seconds or less i went through the carbs and cleaned the pionts but it still will only run for 10 secs. i use champion J8c spark plugs and run 24:1 oil,gas and i have a tn-28 to will the parts be compatible with the td-20 i am very very new at this so please keep it simple

when you say you cleaned the carbs, did you take it apart and soak it overnite in carb cleaner, then blow it out with compressed air, and reassemble with a rebuild kit? do you still have spark after the 10 sec run. my manual only goes back to l955 and shows J6J for the plug which is now J6C. your TD20 is '46-'49 the TN28 is '52-'53. i can say what is compatable. hopefully some of the mentors will come along.

Methinks you have a clogged float needle. If you have a TN with a good carb, I think they will interchange. Think you can take the whole Mag plate and interchange that too.

i went through them and let them sit in carb cleaner for about four hours then put it back together and u were right the carb from the tn worked with a little tweaking the one i got on the TD was in bad shape it was banged up and a little rusty on the outside and yes it still has spark but it just wont go after that
