Re: Teak

SB - Normally we clean and oil up the teak. I am certainly not an expert, but if oil gives you the finish you like, why use urethane? When the urethane goes bad, it will be a PITA to remove. Also, if you do use urethane make sure it can handle the UV rays of the sun. The standard used to be "Spar Varnish" rather than urethane for that reason. I think they now characterize some urethane as "Spar Varnish". Best to ask at the marine or paint store!

Re: Teak

If you dont mind the work ,clean it properly witha good 2 part teak cleaner and oil the heck out of it.That will look the best but you will have to redo it relatively soon.I got tired of redoing my teak and used a sealer called Cetol. It looked very good and lasted almost 2 years. It was the best I ever used. You can add a coat per year and it will last .It is thinner than a varnish but has similar qualities as far as having to sand it to get the finish off.I made a winter project out of it and I got compliments all the time. Its a lot of work but it is a one time project and a simple recoat.Charlie

Star Baby...these guys are right, most finishes will not even stick to teak, so if these doors are inside you can use any finishing oil...I like to use Watco...and the secret to gettin a pro job is to sand the project good and apply the oil finish. Let dry good then sand with 180 or finer sandpaper till it feels like a baby's butt, then apply another leberal coat. The most important part is to WIPE IT ALL OFF BEFORE IT DRIES. Good luck :)

Re: Teak

Sikkens brand sealer works the best.
It does have pigment, so you haveto like the finish.
Best part is that it fades alittle after a year or 2. Just lightly sand and reapply a new coat.
It will look like new. Be careful with varnish or the like. Its like paint compared with opaque stain. Paint flakes and opaque stain fades without flakes.
