I have about an 18 inch tear in my bikini top cause by a fallen dock light. I was thinking of trying to repair it by glueing 8 x 19 inch a patch on the under side.Does anyone know of a glue that would be able to hold up to the tension it will receive when the aft-curtain in on?

the best i know is contact cement. you apply to both pieces, allow to almost dry. you only get 1 chance as it is an instant bond.

I would definately agree with that. Contact cement was the first thing I thought of also.

I havent checked them out, but I'm sure you can buy a replacement top ( just the canvas) fairly cheap. And it would look nicer than a big 'ol patch.

Just plain old contact cement? Sounds good to me. As far as replacement goes, it for my "1975 searay" I'm sure it would have to be custom made. The patch would only be on the underside shouldn't look to bad. Besides it is only used if it gots caught in the rain, about twice a year.

Normally I would welcome a tear in someone's bikini top!
In this case, the contact cement would probably suffice, but I think I would stitch around the outside of the patch for additional holding power.

I wondered if anyone would pickup on that!! I had thought about having it stitched also, but it would make it more noticeable. I could always do it later if needed.

contact cement will not work permanently. the chemicals in the acrylic will not allow it to permanently bond. take it to a local marine shop and have them put on a stiched patch, it wont be pretty but it will hold
