tech help needed

My vro pump went out on my 1987 150hp evinrude motor. The mechanic told me to plug all oil lines from the vro and just install a low pressure electric fuel pump. Then just pre mix gas and oil in the tank. Anyone hear of doing this.

Common fix but the electric fuel pump part throws me.....

Use a pulse pump and avoid the electric fuel pump...absolutely no chance to go boom.
