I have a Ted Williams 7.5 model 217-58587-0 from what i can find on it its a 1975 i lost the manual years ago. First problem I have is the I relplaced a rotted Carberator bowl it was leaking put in a new one and a needle valve and gas overflows the bowl thought the float was the problem adusted the float stopped the over flow but the engine will only run for a few minutes and dies out. Its a fun game and I am not winning. Any inputs? it was a good motor when i was a kid.

thanks

Probably, the synthetic rubber seat for the needle is bad. Contact www.certifiedpartscorp.com and call the number there, with model number in hand. They'll make you up a carburetor kit. Soak the carb after disassembly in carburetor cleaner, then install the kit.

To get the seat out, you bend just a tiny "L" (<1/8") on the end of a stiff wire, and hook the old one out. It's way up in a cavity. Then, press the new one into place with the back end of an appropriate drill bit.

You'll also get a new fuel pump element for the flange of the carb and a new flapper valve whimjigger for the fuel inlet. When you install the fuel pump element, do so with the slot at a 45-degree angle.

Do that stuff, and you'll probably be back on the water.

I had similar problems. I just sent mine to a fellow on E-bay and he rebuilt it for me. $55 including shipping. After I priced the parts I would need I figured it would cost me less to have it done, and by someone that new more about these carbs than I do.

Great advise will start with the CPC link and see how much trouble I will be in then I will try the Ebay trick.
