my friends Teleflex power steering on a 200 hp merc OB pulses when you turn and you have to constantly keep turning left to go straight ??? any one familiar with this PLS help

Sounds like the steering cylinder is leaking or low on hydraulic fluid. Edit: If it's full hydraulic could just be low on fluid

are there any check valves in the system ??

Got some more info from seastar. This may not be the model your friend has but is a good place to start:
This is caused by dirt in check valves. See page 23 for how to fix
