Hi All,
I have a "'93, 180c Procraft w/150hp Merc Black Max.,
Teleflex (SH 4910/4920) no feedback helm.
The helm steers smoothly from full right to full left etc., but when underway and making a steering change the wheel seems to just "stick".
The typical remedy is rotate the wheel slack in the opposite direction of desired turn to end of freeplay (a small amount). Then with very modest force turn the wheel in the desired direction and "bump" against and thru the "hang-up/tight spot". Once moving, the steering proceeds smoothly and reliably.
This phenomenon seems to be consitant in both directions and with succesive movements in the same direction.
Is this simply a trait of this type of steering system?
Firmly tugging at the motor end show no exccessive slack or looseness.
The boat probably has no more than 200 hours on it.
My searches of the forum provided one or two comments that semed to suggest this but no direct discussion of it.
Got the boat last year and only took it out a couple of times, trying to get ready for this season and want to make sure all is well in mudville.
Regards,
Martyr
