Hi Guys'
I'm new to this stuff so bear with me. I bought a '68 MFG that I believe had a 65 hp Merc on it. The Merc was pulled off several years ago, and now has an Evinrude . Also, the steering wheel is not original, so I assume that was changed at the same time. Would this seem right? The steering box is marked Teleflex "Safe-T". I know Mercs used ride guide for a long time, but I'm not so sure this boat was equipped with it. A horizontal ride guide rack system won't fit under the dash, and the two bolt holes in the transom suggest a steering cable bracket was originally used. I was told this bracket was for a Teleflex cable. Does this seem right? Did only Merc motors need this bracket? If I buy a bracket can I still use the current steering cable on a Merc? I am restoring my boat to it's original configuration, so any help would be greatly appreciated
Sorry for so many questions... but this stuff has me stumped
Thanks
Ed
