Teleflex Power Steering Kit

My boat: 2001 ProLine 20Walk/150HP Mercury.

My wife would like power steering. I need some opinions based on experience with Teleflex SeaStar kits.

Will I notice much of a difference?

are you talking POWER steering or HYDRAULIC steering?
it will depend on the helm capacitry and the cylinder as well as your current set up as to the question of noticing any difference.
when I repowered my 18 hydra-sport with a 175 E-TEC I switched from dual cable rack to a 2.3cid helm and a K-6 side mount cyl and it works a lot better.
cost about 1100 dollars but what the hay.
if you live in an area with a large temp change you will find the late style front mount cylinder tends to leak at the shaft seals a lot.

I'm considering the SeaStar 1.7 c.i. front-mount hydraulic steering kit. The 2.0 c.i. is recommended for boats that can exceed 60 mph (mine can't) . It's an extra $50 but maybe I should consider that one.

just be aware the front mount cylinders tend to leak more.
the 1.7 helm will work ok for a 20' proline.

Thanks for info. Are the seals easily replaced O-Rings or must the cylinder be shipped back to Teleflex?

seal kit for the cyl is about 80 dollars,about 100 with the gland removal tool. seastar fluid is about 18 dollars per quart.
takes an hour or so to replace the seals on the front mount cylinders. not hard barring saltwater corrosion.

Master Chief, do you have a front mount cylinder?

Ever had to replace the seals?

Maybe it would be cheaper to get my wife a set of dumb bells......

$18 for a quart of oil??!
