Not sure but I might have a 1989 Teleflex control on my starcraft. If I play with the handle for 5 min. might get it started, Other wise nothing happens.
If it is the neutral safety switch, do they have a part that I can buy?
If not what choices would I have.

I hear newer controls need new cables..not sure. Hate to have to replace 4-5 hundred dollars worth of parts for a switch.
If I have to what should I buy?

My control and cables work perfect at the moment, as far as shifting smoothly.

Was going to see if when I turn the key if I have 12 volts at the selonoid before it gets to my starter. Not very good with my sears multimeter..real rookie using one.

Re: Teleflex Single Control help

Going to see if I have a test light. If not go buy one and try and do the test in the self help section.

Still need to know if I can replace that switch in that handle if bad.

Thanks

The neutral safety switch is not in the handle, it's on the main part of the control you can't see (other side of that upholstered panel). Usually on the mechanism activated by the cables being moved.

Took controls out. Paying $90 an hour is just too steep for me.

Boat started every time with controls out of boat laying on the deck. Cables were not anchored tight when installed, so that was not it.
Could not find any name on controls.
Picture 1 has a phillips screw that goes through and has a nut on other side. No idea what it is doing.
Picture 2 nut on middle cable was loose but dont think that was it.
Picture 3 has the neutral switch. Looks like a little white rod goes into a groove and is a 1/8 or so away from a metal point on control body.

Could not get it to not work, out in the open. Any ideas?
Does that rod on the switch move or is it just a sensor?

Re: Teleflex Single Control help

Is the switch mounted solid? did you check all the wires that connect to the NSS? when you work the handle can you see it activating the switch?
BTW if it is just a bad switch you can get a replacment at an electronics store...maybe even radio shack/Circuit city for about $5.00
The only way to trouble shoot it is to make the problem occur and investigate it, It may even just be a dirty switch that needs a little contact cleaner.

Re: Teleflex Single Control help

Will take switch out tonight and clean it, look for part number or brand name. Just one screw holds it on

In picture one there is a phillips screw that holds a plate, it can be accessed through a plug when it is all put together.
What the heck does it do?

Thanks for the help

Re: Teleflex Single Control help

With the control lacking a drag knob, and since it is accessible with the control together and mounted, that screw may adjust the tension or Force needed to move the control handle.
