Evening all. Ive got a question in relation to the tell tale.
A mate and i recently bought a small runabout. The boat was cheap and the aim is to get it all working and registered before sinking any money into it. The motor on it is an 80s era mariner 4cyl 50hp.
weve had it running. Kicks over just fine and idles fine. Knocks into gear abd the prop spins forward and backwards as it should.
my query relates to water expulsion from the tell tale. In the middle of the cylinder bank there is an small elbow port. At idle water streams out of this port (circled in one of my images if it uploads). The water is hot. Not unbearable but hot. The water just falls onto the lower part of the engine case and drains out of the holes there.
There is a tell tale nipple in the cowl. This is connected to a hose that runs to an elbow port at the very top of the engine. No water comes out of here. The hose is clear. The opening of the port looks clear.
my question is. Why does water come from one and not the other? What should i do first to trouble shoot? Ive read on here about putting picture or similar down the elbow. I havnt actually jammed it into the head of engine yet though.
I plan on replacing the impeller. Could it he functioning so poorly that there isnt enough water pressure generated?
im not sure if the motor has any temp sensors so i dont want to run it to long and cook it if ive overlooked something simple.
happy for thoughts / suggestions.
cheers
