I finally got this 77 9.9 up and running...strong I might add. When I first started it the pisser was throwing water really strong, then it settled down to a light dribble once the motor got going. The water is lukewarm and the exhaust hole water is probably 20 degrees warmer than that. Lakewater is around 65f. New water pump BTW. I have no idea where the thermostat is on this motor, if it even has one.

So is this normal or should I be concerned.

Hey Chris....run a wire up the pee hole. They do plug from time to time.

The t-stat is located at the bottom of the head....right in front of the hood latch. Real pain to get to. The cover has 8 bolts holding it on.

One of the things to look out for on those engines is the grommet at the top of the water tube, in the bottom of the powerhead. With time they swell and close off the water flow. It's not a big job to replace, but you'll need the manual.

Chris.........
