telltale question

I have been searching for an answer with no luck. I Was looking into a 1996 25hp mariner and have a question. When the guy started it and let it idle, it would just dribble and it would take about 2-3 min and then pump good for about a min and then dribble and continue on this cycle. Is this just the thermostat turning on and off or is there another problem.

Thanks

Re: peeing question

Re: peeing question

Sounds normal. As long as the exhaust manifold (big flat cover on the side of the block) doesn't get more than just a tad warm (if that), you're cooling adequately.

The telltale is on the discharge side of the 'stat, thus the cycling effect as the 'stat opens and closes.

The block itself should get noticeably warm to the touch, but not so hot you're uncomfortable holding your hand on it.

Re: telltale question

Is there anyway to change it and make it pee strong all the time without effecting the motor. It just makes me unconfortable not seeing a stream all the time.

Thanks

Re: telltale question

The stream will most likely get stronger in the lake at idle and will be stronger when your running at WOT.
