On my engine the temp switch did not work , so it was replace by a modern temp feeler ( made adaptor )

Re: temp gauge for v4 block

thanks for that, nice setup
i'm thinking that i might use the hole where the choke solonoid cutout switch goes (top of the block)

the o/t warning switch on mine works fine so i will leave it.

What temp does your motor run at?
also did you have to fit a regulator to get the gauge working accuratly?

thanks

What temp does your motor run at?
Don´t know :) , the gauge only shows temp high/low ,no numbers .
( runns at correct temp( test = 3 sec ,fingers ,top of the head )).

On this pic , I got some problems with the water pump , so it did run to hot .
When I corrected the problem the gauge stays at "12" oclock , drops down to 10 - 11 oclock at idle , max temp running WOT at 1 oclock .

Will replace the gauge later , want the exact temp .

did you have to fit a regulator to get the gauge working accuratly?
No ,these gauges will work with 9 > 18 V , got internal regulator ( Teleflex ).

You might get some info here at Teleflex support site
The basics are the same on other brands .

Re: temp gauge for v4 block

I rebuilt a 115 v4 about 4 mounts ago and while I had the heads off I drilled and tapped the top of the heads so I could install a temperature sending unit (1/8" npt) for and electricial temperature gauge. I drill and tapped the top of the head at the same location the repair manual instructs to check the temperature with the temperature sticks.
I have a sending unit on each head but only one gauge and I use a toggle switch to check the left or the right side.
Both sides are running about 130 degrees.
I also installed a water pressure gauge and I connected it to the outlet for the tale-tale line.
Another thing I did was to vent the engine block on the right side. This is done by drilling and tapping the block (1/8 npt) on the hibhest part of the block. This prevent a possible air pocket and cools the voltage regulator. This vent line is connedted to the tale-tale outlet.
I will take a few photos and try to post them, i I haven't had much success doing photos

Re: temp gauge for v4 block

Thanks everyone for your help.
I found a 1/8? screw plug on the upper starboard side (it goes into the water jacket) of the block which i am going to remove and plumb a line from it as a tell tale. I am also going to run this water via a temp sensor on its way out.

oscar boy, if you can figure out the camera i would like to see the photos.

Thanks
