Thank you. That helped alot.
I have looked on the web and on iboats and have not seen one for johnson. Does anyone know if they make one for johnson or do I have to add one like on the diagram that uses the "Z" bracket?
Temp gauges for outboards are pretty universal. Yours will need to use the flat style sender or the threaded version with a "Z" bracket. The gauge and sender must match. Gauges are available in two varieties. One is calibrated in C (cold) N (normal) and H (hot). The other has actual numbers from 60 to about 200+. Those are getting harder to find.
take a look a your powerhead. If it has a tapped boss for a sender, you don't need a Z bracket. Otherwise you will. The Teleflex gauges typically come with a sender and Z bracket.
It is a 1995. It is a friends house being stored while i rebuild my 1973 newman so i will have to get over there as soon as i can and look at the power head and the boss. Forgive me but i will have to find out what they are first. But i do have a manual so i am sure i will be able to find out what those are. Atleast i hope so. I know? But i am new at this it is my first boat.
I have a 1988 55-70 hp OMC manual and i just looked at it and it shows an open threaded port in the upper right corner of the head that looks like its the spot for a threaded temp sender. I would wager the 1995 head has the same threaded port... looks like an 1/8th pipe thread like the kind I use on my motor.
