Re: temp gauge
There are three parts to the temp gauge "system". 1) the gauge itself. 2) the sender unit on the engine. 3) the wire that connects the sender to the gauge. Chances are the gauge itself is not the problem. Chances are the sender is not the problem. Chances are the wire that connects the sender to the gauge is the problem, or it may simply be that +12 volts or the ground connection on the gauge is bad. All are easy to test if you have a test light or a multi-tester and know how to use it.
1) Check/repair the connection on the sender at the engine.
2) Check/repair the connections on the gauge. If you have 12volts and ground at the gauge and wire between it and the sender is good, you will need to check the sender itself.
3) Disconnect the wire at the temp sender. Measure the resistance of the sender. If it is outside of its spec it will need to be replaced.
