Hello

First I would like to mention that I am new to this forum and also fairly new to boats. I just purchased my boat. It is an 20' Sea Sport 2000 & 2006 mercruiser 3.0. Everything seems to be fine except for the temp gauge which doesn't seem to work. The arm lays on 100 and doesn't move. I would like to know if there is a temp sensor on the engine or how to best troubleshoot this?

Also I'm looking to purchase this book ,see below. Do you believe this is a good book? Thank you.

Well,

not the best manual...

Just find the temp sender (it's usually on the thermostat housing).

(is 100*F the lower limit on the gage?)

Turn on the "key", disconnect the wire, and "short" it to ground while observing the gage.

If the gage goes to full scale, then the sender may be defective, or the ground has been lost at the sender.

If the gage doesn't move, the wire may be broken (from the sender to the gage) or the gage may be defective.

You'll want to do the same thing at the gage then.

At the gage, there should be 2 connections. (exclusive of the instrument lighting)

1 will be the wire to the "sender", and the other will be 12v power (when the key is on)

If you ground the "sender" terminal, the gage should "peg" (DON'T GROUND THE "+" TERMINAL!!!) you'll blow fuses and possibly get "fireworks"!

Cheers,

Rick
