We just got back from some time on the water and the 4 days we used the boat my temp never registered over 100 degrees. When it first happened, I checked everything at idle to make sure the t-stat was working. Now that we're home, I've had the chance to pull things apart. I have a '95 350 Mag with carb temp housing.
First I pulled the t-stat and popped it in some hot water and measured the opening temperature. Right around 140. I then went back to the boat and tested the two wires that tie into the housing. The one on the starboard side appeared hot while the port side was the ground. I then grounded the hot side and the gauge pegged at 200+. So, it appears the sending unit is bad.
Now my question, do I have to replace both screw in units in the housing (starboard and port side) or only the starboard side? What is the port side piece anyway?
The sender has a number on it that reads 102700. I haven't been able to locate this piece on the net yet.
