Re: temp sender

All we know is you have a boat (unknown make/model) with an engine (unknown make/model) and we also don't know the age of either of them. We also don't know if you have the temp sender and if you do, what type it is (screw in or bolt on). Nor do we know the color of the wire dangling from the tach. Important information perhaps?

Re: temp sender

sorry silvertip engine is a 1978 mercury 50hp 500 blueband, the dangly wire was an earth that had dropped off when the guy changed my switchbox so thats sorted. the temp sender unit is supposed to go on the block but where he showed me there is an oval shape with a hole in the middle and like two small holes above and below it, but no threads in any, just empty holes. there is a bolt inbetween the 2nd and third plug slightly on the left when looking from behind that seems to be doing nothing and isnt black like the rest of the block?

Re: temp sender

It sounds like you might have a temp sender that looks like this.

If it is, it simply fastens on the block at the upper most cylinder. The paint must be removed and the sender must make good contact with the engine. A single wire runs to the "S" or "Send" terminal on the gauge. the gauge also requires +12V when the key is on and a ground connection.

Re: temp sender

thanks i have added a pic of my block and hope you can make out what is what on it? the sender unit you showed me doesn't look like it will fit it. is there a specific sender or can it be any one that will bolt on to the block?
