Temp sensor for a 1989 Suzuki DT140?

I disabled my water flow sensor because it went bad on me 4 times in 2 years. I refuse to keep buying the same part just so it can go bad in a month. I want to install a temp guage so I can monitor the engine's cooling that way. The motor didn't come with a temp guage, only the water flow sensor/alarm. Is there a Suzuki or aftermarket temp guage I can buy? How would it be installed? Thanks for any info!

I did some research and see that universal temp gauges are available. I'll pick one up. What about water pressure? Is there an existing spot on my engine where the tube fitting will connect?

Don't have my manual but there should be a plug somewhere on the exhaust manifold for water pressure sending unit installation. if you order a Suzuki water pressure kit it may tell you where to install it on the engine.

Re: Temp sensor for a 1989 Suzuki DT140?

If the heads on the DT140 are similar to the DT85 there may be a screw in plug sticking out of the cylinder head for a water pressure pickup. I installed an aftermarket (Teledyne) temp sensor using a bracket that fits on a head bolt. Beware that the bracket is thick and decreases the depth of the threads on the head bolt. I stripped a headbolt hole partly because of it (the threads may have been a little worn beforehand) so after I put in a helicoil I cut off the lock washer on the bolt with the temp sensor to add a little depth.

Phil,

Not sure if you are still looking for a water flow sensor, but I just did it on my 89 DT115. The DT115 and 140 have the same setup for the water flow sensor. Look directly under your water flow sensor and you will see a little plug with a square head. This is where the flow sensor plugs in.

NOTE I had to heat that little guy pretty good because it was in there good.

email me if you need more info.

Mark

Hey, I have an 87 DT65 that keeps doing the same darn thing. How did you make out with all that ?
