Temper Pedic Mattress

Anybody have or know anyone that has a Temper Pedic Mattress? If so what do you think of one? Would you recommend one for someone with severe back problems? They are so expensive I hate to invest in one and not have it live up to what they advertise. Yes I know they say try one free for 90 days. But there is always a catch. Shipping or ???
Any feedback would be appreciated. I have a broken back and am having Spinal Fusion in two weeks as well as a Herniated disk repaired and Surgery for severe spinal stenosis. In other words my back really is a mess. I had two surgeries for Broken disks previously. One in 1983 and one in 1985. I live in constant back pain. I'm hoping this next surgery will help me. I've lived for 30 or more years on five or less hours of sleep. HELP!!!!

After spending a weekend at daughter #2's house a few years back I realized that I didn't wake several times during the night to try to find a more comfortable position. I was sleeping on a Tempurpedic mattress.

I went out and bought a 4" Tempurpedic pad to go over my expensive "normal" mattress and haven't looked back. Before that I had regular hip and shoulder problems while sleeping.

I believe everything they say about it. I would like to have the whole mattress, but as you say, it is very costly. I don't remember what I paid for the pad, but I think it was under $100.

The whole mattress might be even more comfy than the pad, but a C-note vs. a couple Grand seems like a no brainer to me.

I'm still hoping to hear more testimonies before I go investing a lot of money. Also now there are several styles/ weights so that is confusing. I'm all ears.

I have 3 herniated disk in my back and the tempurpedic is the only mattress that Ican sleep on and my back DOES NOT HURT. My wife and I like it so much we bought one for the boat also. It was the best money I spent.

I have broke my back as well in addition to having my hip replaced due to a wound received in the first gulf war, so pain is a constant friend of mine, we have another manufactures version of this mattress with the memory foam top that is about 6 inches thick and it is a very comfortable mattress to sleep on and does a good job of alleviating the majority of the pain in both my hip as well as my back. I would not hesitate to get another one, but I would also look into the temper mattress pad as well, I think you would be pleased with one or the other.

We have had a tempurpedic for 4 years now, My wife has spinal stenosis and the only problem we have is she NEVER wants to get out of it.

I was in an auto accident 4 1/2 years ago and went through 2 years of recovery after 2 spinal surgeries(10 screws, 2rods, a plate and 5 vertebrae fused) and I don't think I could use another mattress on a long term basis.

I do know there are several off brands of it but I don't know of their quality or comfort, but I do know they are about half the price.

Ours is a Sealy brand, very high quality. We have a California King, so it is a bit of a pain to find sheets for it, but it was about 1/3 less than the Termpurpedic brand and is holding up very well.

My wife is the one in our family that has back pain issues. We bought the temper pedic pad to put on our bed at the cabin because it was terribly uncomfortable. It helped her back pain considerably.

Now, our bed at home is another story. Any one ever tried a sleep number? I like my bed soft with little support and my wife likes a more firm sleeping surface. Like cbavier mentioned, I don't want to buy one and not be happy with it.

I've only used sleep numbers when I was staying at a Raddison so only 1 or 2 nights at a time2 or 3 times a year. Finally figured out my number was about 20 but I never really cared for them

My brother has severe back problems starting with disk surgery about 15 years ago and then developed DISH so his pain is pretty much nonstop. He got a 2 stage air mattress from Denver Mattress that he's pretty happy with. About 2 grand if I remember right.

I just looked up a Tempurpedic overlay pad on the Tempurpedic website. They want $888.00 for a queen sized pad! Gulp!!

I had a chance to sleep on one of them a few years ago at a friend's home. It reminded me of the foam rubber mattress I grew up with as a kid. It as comfortable.
Remember this though, it does not breath well and you may find it warm if your home is not temperature controlled the way you like it.
When I was young we did not have AC in the home and the foam was really warm to sleep on. I noted that when I slept on the Tempurpedic and the homeowner did not lower his temp in the night like we do.

Boomyal, hmm small world, I was born in Vancouver and lived there until about 14 years ago!

There are many manufactures of memory foam beds and pads now a days, it would pay to go to a good quality mattress store and talk to a knowledgable sales person, that is how we found our Sealy...there are also many companies that make the pads as well for quite a bit less than Temper charges.

We have a queen size "normal' mattress with a 2" thick memory foam topper on it and a down topper on top of that, real soft and very nice. I believe the 2" or 4" memory foam toppers work great and a whole lot less expensive than that memory foam mattress. I believe our 2" queen memory foam topper was about $125, but I know with a bad back, a good night's sleep is worth it's weight in gold! Good Luck!

I have had a Temper Pedic for about 4 years and love it! The first night I slept on it I did not move the whole night, and woke up with no pain. If I sleep on a spring mattress I flip flop all night because of the pressure points. I have back problems but not as severe as yours. It was money well spent. I would go to a mattress retailer and try them out to get the one with the right firmness for you. The only draw back is that they are a little bit warmer than a spring mattress. I just turn up the air con. I have tried the Sleep Number but did not like it as much as the Temper Pedic. It also has parts that can break (compressor, controls, bladders). Good luck with your back!

I used to Live in Hazel Dell, right on Hazel Dell Ave, in fact the Target Store pretty muchs sits where my old house was, right across the street from the fire station, mad Dad lives out in the Salmon Creek area, just up the street from the Salmon Creek Fred Meyers. I was just back there in Dec for the holidays, it has changed a whole bunch over the years!

We were looking at the TP mattresses until we found the Simmons NXG series. It has a tremendous amount of foam in the mattress, but the key to it being different is the use of latex foam. Latex foam gives the same support and comfort as the memory foam, but it rebounds quicker so if you shift around you don't have to wait for the foam to re-conform to you. The rebound also helps reduce the feeling that you have to roll or 'pour yourself out' of the mattress. There is no bouncy feeling, and when the other person is moving around in bed, you barely feel it. Lastly, latex is cooler than memory foam, which is nice in the summer. The cost of the mattress, even at the most expensive level, was cheaper than the TP. The mattress is taller than the TP, but it has more of the nice features that we would have missed had we not bought it.

I had surgery for a ruptured L4 disk in 1997. In 2002 I had back pain come back, five years, almost to the month after the surgery. The doctors said it was scar tissue and they prescribed drugs that did nothing. I decided to try a memory foam mattress pad to see if it would help. Don't remember the brand. Got it from Overstock.com. I figured that was a much cheaper way to try it than the pricey entire mattress. Slept on it one night and my back pain was gone. Cannot figure out why it helped so dramatically, but it did. And that's on top of me sleeping on my stomach.

At that point I swore I would make my next entire mattress memory foam, and I did, in 2005, and even got a "hospital bed" queen frame. It has been wonderful for the last 6 years.
I didn't buy a Temperpedic because I don't want to pay for all their marketing. When I went to the local mattress store, they carried the Temperpedic, but recommended something else that was cheaper. I got my mattress and bed frame, with wireless remote, for about 2300.00.

I sleep on a TP when I stay in Vancouver at the Heathman, for a few years I always requested a regular bed if remembered when I made reservations. After few years they upgraded to a newer design and it was were much better, the old design made my back hurt.

I bought a sleep number though, because like what's already been said, the foam can feel very warm and a little clammy at times, plus my wife and I like different levels of firmness. I also tend to change the setting periodically to what feels comfortable that night, which can really make a difference.

My daughter lives with us and she purchased a TP, so this discussion goes on frequently.
