Hi- I want to replace the " vague gauge " ( yellow , green and red zone readings ) with an actual temp read out gauge on my 1972 Starcraft 140 hp I/O . Do I just swap out the gauges or do I need to match up or replace the sending unit ? Thanks

Re: Temperature gauge replacement

The gauge and sending unit need to match but I/O and outboard senders are typically 30 - 240 ohms (30 ophms hot, 240 ohm cold).

So when you say match you mean that the gauge and sending unit just be in the same specs or must you buy the sender with the gauge ? Thanks

Re: Temperature gauge replacement

Yes -- the two must be compatible. Most gauges need a sender with a resistance range of 30 - 240 ohms.
