I have a 2002 Mariner with 5.7 Mercs. The temperature guage started showing that the the engine was running hot. The needle would go up 3/4 on the guage; normally it should remain in the middle. I replaced thermostat and sensors. Using a laser sensor the engine appears to be runnning at normal (160-170 degress). My manifolds and intakes are running cool. Can it be a faulty guage? Has anyone expereinced th same?

Re: Temperature Guage

If you have a Faria gauge, you can test it by shorting the signal and ground; it should be pegged full. If so your gauge is ok. To test your sender check with a continuity meter, for resistance of 110 ohms between the signal and ground behind your meter.
