temperature horn

i have a 76 evinrude 115hp and for some reason when she idles for a few minutes the horn starts going off. i was wanting to know what could be causing it and what i should do to check it. and when it sucks in the water where on that motor would it be shooting the water back out

There are two exhaust relief holes just below the motor pan but they are not indication of proper water flow to head. It is not hard to install a pee hole indicator on this motor. You have to drill and tap the water cover on the back. If the pump is good and the motor is still getting hot the thermostats are next. Problem is they are a major pain to replace on this motor.

Time to install a complete water pump kit assembly. Sounds like your present pump is failing.

It should have an easily recognizable water stream flowing out from the motor just below the hood. Probably on the left side rear as you look back at the motor from the front of the boat. No stream means a bad pump / impellor. Don't run it until you replace the pump found in the lower unit. Best to get a manual for guidance.<br /><br />Keep checking here though, you may get more advice from another with more experience.<br /><br />John
