Woke the boat up from winter storage and ran (225 1998)on muffs 2 weeks ago for approx 10-15 minutes no problem (Came up to 140 F usual for this motor at idle). The boat was launched this weekend so I ran it in the slip (Saturday) at idle again for 10-15 minutes fine. Sunday I went to go out so I ran it 5-10 minutes to warm up and proceeded out. After a few minutes at idle the temp rose to 160 (normal running temp) but kept going toward 180 F) and no water was coming out of the tell-tale. I shut it down and idled back to the slip on 1 motor. At the slip I found a blockage at the tell-tale. I cleaned it and flushed the system checking the T-stats water blow off valve no other blockages evident. Ran it again at fast idle for a while and got up to temp and held it. Impellors were replaced in the winter. Any ideas on what is going on?

FAV453 did it overheat, alarm went off? If no then you can assume that the blockage was your problem, this could have been from an insect or the like. Check temp. and pressure allways.

No the alarm didn't go off. I was just monitoring the temp and noticed the problem. I guess my other question is if running it at 1000 RPM and faster in neutral (at the slip) and having it in gear at less than 1000 RPM would cause the overheat due to the prop loading?
