I recently put a brand new 350 5.7 320 HP motor on my 25' Regal boat. Is a 1983 with an OMC Stringer 800 outdrive. The motor is running fine but lately the temperature has been going up. In the beginning it stayed within the 170 degrees. It is now almost reaching the 180 degrees when underload and at higher RPMs such as 3500. When I slow down the temperature comes back down to 170.
The motor is being cooled by raw water and I'm in Southern California where I use it in the ocean all the time.
My question is, what's the maximum it should reach and what can I do to bring it down (if 180 is too high)? I put new exhaust manifolds with raisers, new intake manifolds, new carburetor etc. By the way, I also put a new impeller less than a year ago.
